Texas Historical Markers for African American Communities

There are endless numbers of black communities that have a history that is only know by the people in that community. There are schools, churches, cemetaries, historic neighborhoods, historic people, events, activities and more that qualify for Texas Historical Marker status. Unfortunately, only 3 or 4 percent of historical markers in Texas are dedicated to anything African American.

There are many reasons for such a low level of recognition, but there is no reason for those numbers to remain as low as they are. This site was set up as a way to motovate people all over the area to pursue Texas Historical markers for their communities. This site serves as a guide post for the process that the state requires and help for those with an interest in acquiring a Texas Historical marker for their community.
